Vail's Citizen's Police Academy provides participants with an opportunity to see what it’s like to be a Vail Police Officer.

The academy includes opportunities for hands-on learning on topics such as the techniques of conducting traffic stops, tactical searches and vehicle pursuits, as well as discussions on the criminal justice system, basic patrol operations, crime scene analysis and internal affairs.

Citizens attend six sessions and receive a behind the scenes view of Vail’s police culture and ethics. Participants see the inner workings of the Police Department and learn how they can be an active participant in making Vail a safe place to live by sharing what they learn.

Academy sessions are led by Vail Police officers and detectives. The academy is free and includes a graduation celebration. Participants must be age 21 and older.
