Vail’s boards and commissions are essential components of local government, offering critical checks and balances in the decision-making process.

Vail’s boards and commissions are made up of residents, local business people, members of the Vail Town Council and others who take an active interest in the town. As volunteers, these residents contribute many hours to improve Vail’s quality of life. Board vacancies occur nearly annually. Appointments are made by the Vail Town Council. In exchange for volunteering, the town provides some boards with free parking passes and/or ski passes.

Art in Public Places (AIPP)
Oversees the town’s Art in Public Places Program and is responsible for incorporating and maintaining public art in the town.

Building and Fire Codes Appeals Board (B&FCA)
Serves as technical advisors to the Town Council regarding the adoption of proposed amendments and updates to building and fire codes.

Commission on Special Events (CSE)
Oversees special events in the town.

Design Review Board (DRB)
Responsible for reviewing development plans to ensure compliance with the Town of Vail design guidelines and development standards.

Planning and Environmental Commission (PEC)
Responsible for making recommendations to the Town Council on proposed legislation, master planning documents and Special Development Districts.

Vail Local Housing Authority (VLHA)
Responsible for existing Town of Vail deed-restricted housing inventories and affordable housing initiatives.

Vail Local Licensing Authority (Liquor Board)
Reviews all Town of Vail liquor license applications.

Vail Local Marketing District
The Vail Town Council sits as the Vail Local Marketing District and approves recommendations made by the Vail Local Marketing District Advisory Council for summer and shoulder season marketing programs.

Vail Local  Marketing District Advisory Council (VLMDAC)
Responsible for making recommendations to the Town Council for summer and shoulder season marketing programs.

Vail Reinvestment Authority
The VRA oversees development and redevelopment of identified blighted areas within the Town.

Vail Economic Advisory Council (VEAC)
The volunteer board makes recommendations to the Vail Town Manager and Vail Town Council regarding economic issues and short and long-term strategies, plus works with the community to coordinate economic-related efforts.

Vail Parking & Transportation Task Force
This volunteer task force provides advisory input and recommendations on parking, transit and operations.
