Vail is in bear country. That means residents and guests need to be aware and take precautions to protect themselves, their pets, and wildlife from negative interactions.

The Vail Town Code includes several provisions designed to prevent conflict with wildlife. These include requirements that trash and recycling containers be wildlife resistant, that refuse only be placed on the curb between dawn and dusk the day of scheduled pick up, and that bird feeders be suspended out of the reach of black bears during summer months.
