Transportation is the second leading source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Eagle County and in the Town of Vail. The Climate Action Plan for Eagle County establishes goals to reduce GHG emissions 25% by 2025, 50% by 2030, and 80% by 2050, and was adopted by Town of Vail in 2018. The Climate Action Collaborative for the Eagle County Community has identified several strategies to help achieve these goals including reducing single occupancy vehicle commute trips by getting people out of their cars twice per week and implementing multi-modal transportation options including micro-mobility solutions such as electric bikes (e-bikes).

To make ownership of e-bikes accessible to more residents, Town of Vail implemented an e-bike rebate program. If you are a Town of Vail resident or Town of Vail employee, you are eligible for an e-bike rebate. To receive the rebate, the resident or employee must agree to use the e-bike as a means of transportation to replace vehicle miles. The rebate program will launch May 1, 2023.

Rebate Rules:
  • E-bikes purchased on or after Jan. 1, 2023 are eligible for the rebate.
  • Two rebates maximum are available per household and only one per person.
  • Rebate cannot exceed 50% of the purchase price of the e-bike.
  • Detailed invoices and receipts for e-bike purchases must be submitted with the application.
  • Rebate checks will be distributed within 4-6 weeks of receiving completed rebate applications.
  • Rebates are available on a first come, first serve basis until December 31, 2023 or funds are depleted, whichever comes first.
  • We will need a completed W9 to be submitted with your form.
Rebate Tiers:

Tier 1: E-bikes purchased at retailers in the Town of Vail are eligible for a $300 rebate.

Tier 2: E-bikes purchased at any other retailer outside of the Town of Vail are eligible for a $200 rebate.

Low to Moderate Income (LMI) Rebate Program:

Qualified applicants making 80% of area median income (AMI) or less, which is currently $62,640 or less annually, are eligible for a rebate on an e-bike purchased at any retailer. Proof of income must be submitted with the application. This can include the four most recent paystubs from the applicant’s current place of employment, most recent W2 statements, or most recent tax returns with sensitive information marked out.

LMI Tier 1: 61-80% AMI ($47,001 - $62,640) - E-bikes purchased at any retailer are eligible for $300 rebate

LMI Tier 2: 41-60% AMI ($32,001 - $47,000) - E-bikes purchased at any retailer are eligible for $400 rebate
