All contractors engaged in construction work, including, but not limited to new construction, additions, repairs, alterations, renovations of any building or structure, or excavation work, shall be registered under provision 4-7-2, Contractor Registration, Vail Town Code, prior to undertaking any construction, excavation work or contract and/or applying for any type of permit required by applicable State statutes or ordinances of the town.
Contractors registering to work in the Town of Vail will be required to provide proof of competency through either passing an ICC trade-specific national exam or an equivalent (B.E.S.T., Denver Supervisor Certification, State exam/license from another state). Electrical and Plumbing contractors must provide their Colorado State License number and Fire Service contractors must provide their Vail Fire and Emergency Services contractor registration number and must maintain this licensure for the period of their registration.
Contractor registration is good for up to 3 years in the Town of Vail expiring on April 30 in year three. Upon expiration a contractor is required to re-register. Contractor registration fee is $200 (fee does not apply to Electrical contractors).

Fire Contractors
To apply for our Vail Fire and Emergency Services contractor registration, you must submit the Fire Protection Contractor Pre-registration Form. Once reviewed by the Fire Marshal, you will be notified if you can proceed with full contractor registration by using the Contractor Registration system on our application portal. Please allow up to 2 weeks for processing of the pre-registration document. Fire service contractors will be required to update certifications upon renewal of their registration.
Contractors must continue to maintain liability and workers compensation insurance and be prepared to show proof of registration and insurance upon request by the Building Official.
