Online Citizen Portal  
Customers of the Community Development Department have access to a 24/7 online citizen portal to submit applications for contractor registration and various construction-related permits. The portal, at http://vail.onlinegovt.com/ also accepts planning applications for review by the Design Review Board and Planning and Environmental Commission. In addition, residents can access the citizen portal to submit a code enforcement request or check to see the status of any permit activity in their neighborhood. Here’s a recap of the various construction projects currently underway in Vail.  

Vail Village

816 Forest Road Entry Bridge
Approval was granted to remove additional trees and prep the site for new development.  Work continues on the construction of a new entry bridge for Forest Road duplex with use of lower lot for staging of material and equipment. Approval granted for use of the lower lot for staging of material and equipment. All work is currently within the construction fence area. Start date was July 2022. 184 Gore Creek Drive  
Tenant Improvements, full interior and exterior remodel.  Completion date is mid-August 2023. Contractor is Jay Carlson, Carlson Construction Company, 970-390-5090. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677. 

Owens Residence, 272 W. Meadow Drive
This is a demo-rebuild of a single-family residence. Start was May 2022 with completion scheduled for January 2024. Contractor is Vail Custom Builders, David Hawkins, 970-376-8250. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677. 

82 West Meadow Drive Unit A, Interior/Exterior Renovation
Current construction activity is within the construction fence. Expect single lane and sidewalk closures pending any right of way permit submittal. Work consists of interior renovations and exterior improvements, new landscaping and utility work. Contractor is RA Nelson, Erick Garcia, 970-445-0309. Lionshead 

Vail Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements, 846 Forest Road 
The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is installing a new sewer main along the southern face of their wastewater treatment facility in Vail. Sewer main installation is expected to continue into the fall and is part of a larger project scheduled through 2024 to upgrade infrastructure and the wastewater treatment process. Outlying

North Frontage Road West Water System Improvements 
Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is improving local water infrastructure and available fire flows on North Frontage Road West adjacent to the Middle Creek Village apartment complex. This project is expected to extend into late September. Work includes two new fire hydrants, valve installations and new water main. Work may occur between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. This project will impact local traffic patterns and traffic control personnel will guide traffic through the work area as necessary. Access to properties will remain open, although delays and alternate routes are anticipated. There will be temporary water service outages to properties as work proceeds. Any planned interruptions of service will be scheduled during normal working hours and affected properties will be notified 48 hours in advance. The contractor is 360 Civil. Roundabout Lighting Improvements, I-70 Vail Town Center Interchange
Crews hired by the town of Vail continue work on the lighting project at the roundabouts at I-70 interchange 176. Conduit installation is ongoing and light pole foundations at the south roundabout are scheduled for the week of Aug. 21. The project’s goal is to upgrade the lighting in the Vail Town Center roundabouts to meet current safety standards for both vehicles and pedestrians. The project is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 15. During working hours there will be single lane closures entering and exiting the roundabouts. The project contractor is Morton Electric of Pueblo. 1281 N. Frontage Road, Lionsridge Loop Full Road Closure
Lionsridge Loop above the Timber Ridge Village will be closed to all vehicle traffic Aug. 21 – 25. The full closure is 1,900 ft long and will start  400 feet east of Moraine Drive to 1230 Lionsridge Loop (Savoy Villas). Work is to allow the staging of an oversize crane and drilling equipment. Traffic control will be provided. Contractor is CMT Technical Services, Ian Cesare, 303-520-1420. Town of Vail Contact is George Ruther, 970-479-2145. 

East Vail Bridge Safety Improvements 
Crews hired by the Town of Vail will begin work on four bridges in East Vail: Nugget Lane over Gore Creek, Lupine Drive over Gore Creek, Bighorn Road over Pitkin Creek and Bighorn Road over Bighorn Creek.  The project will repair and bring up to current standards the bridge and approach rails as well as scour mitigation and corrosion remediation on the Nugget Lane bridge. Traffic will be maintained throughout the project with periodic single lane/shoulder closures. The project is scheduled to be completed by Nov. 15. South Frontage Road Utility Potholing 
Crews hired by the Town of Vail will begin utility potholing Aug. 15 along the South Frontage Road from the West Vail roundabouts to Forest Road and along the Gore Valley Trail from Forest Road to Lionshead. This utility investigation work is in preparation for installation of the town’s fiber optic backbone along that route.  Work will require shoulder closures along the South Frontage Road and the Gore Valley Trail near Lionshead Place while work is occurring.  For more information, contact Town of Vail Senior Engineer Chad Salli at 970-376-2389. 

Turf Grass Reduction Project
Work on the Town of Vail Turf Grass Reduction Project will begin on Aug. 7. The work is being performed by Rocky Mountain Custom Landscapes.  There are three sites included in this year’s project. These are the Frontage Road side of the Village Transportation Center, the Main Vail Roundabout I-70 onramp, and the Sandstone Underpass Roundabouts. Work is scheduled to be completed on Aug. 25. The contact for the contractor is Dawson Pickett, 970-424-4215.  The project manager for the Town of Vail is Todd Oppenheimer, 970-390-4678. 

The Residences at Main Vail, 129 N. Frontage Road
Work consists of construction of a 72-unit locals housing development. Project start date was November 2021, with completion scheduled for late summer 2023. General contractor is Shaw Construction, Chuck Apostolik, 720-636-0219. Town of Vail contact is Greg Hall, 970-390-4676. 

Marriott Residence Inn (Former site of the Roost Lodge), 1783 N. Frontage Road
Completion of the concrete driveways and the North Frontage work landscaping are underway, traffic lane shifts will be set up to accommodate the work. Traffic control will be provided as needed. Please exercise caution when driving or walking within the project area. The project includes a new four-story hotel with underground parking, plus 146 Limited-Service Lodge Units and onsite dormitory-style employee housing for 9 employees composed of 5 bedrooms. The site project start date was May 2021. Completion date is late August 2023. Contractor is Porter Brothers Inc., Ken Newton, 602-725-3931. Town of Vail contact is Leonard Sandoval, 970-390-4677.  

I-70 Wildlife Fence Work Through Vail
The Colorado Department of Transportation and contract partner CC Enterprises of Grand Junction have resumed work on the wildlife fence along the Interstate 70 corridor near Vail at two separate locations.  The first location is from Mile Point 171.7, by the Minturn interchange, continuing east to MP 173.4. The second location is east of Vail, from MP 178.8 to 180.8. Crews will add new fence, game ramps and repair the existing fence from MP 173.4 to MP 178.8 and remove fence from MP 171.7 to MP 173.4.  Motorists should plan for east and westbound single lane closures, shoulder closures and flagging operations on the frontage road and bike path Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The project is anticipated to be complete at end of August 2023. I-70 West Vail Pass Auxiliary Lanes
The Colorado Department of Transportation’s I-70 West Vail Pass Auxiliary Lanes project is underway for the season. This year’s work involves narrowed lanes and shoulders along I-70, lane closures and temporary traffic holds along the recreation trail. Motorists should expect right-lane closures on westbound and eastbound I-70 from MP 184 to 186 and left-lane closures on westbound and eastbound I-70 from MP 181 to 182. Lane closures are from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The lane closures will end at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
